Introduction
Welcome to my solo adventure, using Juice Oracle as my guide! For those new to solo TTRPGs, it's a fantastic way to experience the rich storytelling and engaging mechanics of a role-playing game without needing a Game Master or other players. You step into the shoes of a single character and use creative tools like oracles, randomizers, and prompts to build the narrative and determine the outcomes of your actions.
I've been using Juice Oracle for a while to add depth to my games, but I’ve never used it exclusively. I appreciate its small, portable form factor - it's easy to have on hand whenever inspiration strikes! The Juice Oracle is designed to provide prompts and inspiration for creating characters, quests, and world elements through dice rolls and interpretation. Each session will detail my process of using the Oracle, the results of the dice rolls, and how I weave those elements into a compelling story for newcomers to solo TTRPGs and the Oracle alike.
This first post, Session 0, is dedicated to the crucial initial steps: character generation and the foundational elements of our quest. We'll be rolling dice, consulting the Oracle's tables, and laying the groundwork for the adventures to come.
Character Generation
Name
Using the d20 name generator, I rolled a 14, then an 18, and finally a 5. This gives us "Lechedic." I’m going to change the final c to a k for a harder sound.
The description table (same section as the name generator) reveals Lechedik is a "secure" person
Consulting the NPC table for personality, I rolled a 2 on a d10. Lechedik is "curious."
A random d10 roll on the Person table resulted in a 7. Lechedik is a "priest."
Result: Our character is Lechedik, a curious priest with a strong faith (secure). Perfect!
Quest Generation
Now for the main quest! What is Lechedik trying to achieve?
Objective
The "Quest" table indicates the objective is to "destroy."
I'll use the item table for specifics. A 6D6 roll (with a single D6) gives us a 5, signifying a "weapon." Its quality is a 3, "rough," and the material is 5, "mithral." The type? 3 again, so a "sword or dagger." I'll go with "dagger."
Result: Lechedik's objective is to destroy a rough mithral dagger.
Locations
The "location" table (d10) rolled a 9: "transportation." This doesn’t give much, so let’s say it’s being transported, but where from and to where? Using the environment table again, I rolled an 8: “water”, and a 5 for "grassland."
Initial thought: Perhaps it's from an old, flooded, forgotten settlement, and is being transported to a town surrounded by grassland.
A d10 on the "settlement" table produced a 4, and a 3. The area name is "Lostfall." This will be where the dagger is being transported from. Again on the “settlement” table with 10, and 2 provides "Wolfbrook" for the destination town.
Putting it together: The rough mithral dagger, is being transported from the flooded settlement of Lostfall to Wolfbrook.
Now to figure out the reason behind this transportation and why Lechedik wants to destroy it.
I'll try the "feature" table (d10) and got a 2: "mural."
Idea: What if the dagger, when embedded in the mural at Wolfbrook, triggers something?
Motive
Why is it being transported by someone? I think a high-level understanding will help give a motive for this destruction. Using the NPC "motive" table, I rolled a 10: "focus." I rerolled as it felt a bit vague and got another 10, then on a third roll a 9: "treasure."
Connecting the dots: If the dagger is embedded in the mural, it opens a secret door, revealing treasure that Lechedik doesn’t want to be found.
But why does our priest want to stop this and destroy the dagger? The "need" table (d6) gives us a 6: "friendship."
Result: Lechedik is destroying the dagger for a friend. This creates a great narrative hook!
To solidify that "friendship" thread, let's give the friend a name and a role.
Using the name generator again: 9 (Ma), then another 9 (tur), then 8 (on). "Maturon."
The "Person" table (d10) again gave us another 7. Maturon is also a "priest."
Why this makes sense: Perhaps the religious implications of the dagger's power are what led Maturon to seek Lechedik's help. Even better, Maturon is the high priest and has assigned this quest to Lechedik. I’m going to assume Lechedik doesn’t know details, just that his superior has told him to, for some religious reason.
Session 0 Wrap-Up: The Adventure Unfurls
And there we have it! Through the guidance of the Juice Oracle and the tumble of dice, a compelling foundation for our solo adventure has been laid. We've gone from a blank slate to a fully formed premise:
Our Protagonist: Meet Lechedik, a curious, faithful, priest. Their journey is just beginning, driven by a religiously assigned mission.
The Core Quest: Lechedik's immediate objective is to destroy a rough mithral dagger. Simple in its aim, but complex in its implications.
The Stakes & Setting: This isn't just any dagger; it originates from a watery, forgotten place (Lostfall) and is currently being transported to Wolfbrook. The reason for its journey? To be embedded in a mural, a ritual intended to reveal treasure – a treasure Lechedik’s religion believes should remain hidden.
The Driving Motive: Lechedik isn't acting alone. Their quest is a direct assignment from High Priest Maturon, another priest, indicating a profound, likely religious, reason for the dagger's destruction. Lechedik might not even know the full details, simply trusting their superior's divine directive.
With Lechedik's character defined, the purpose of the dagger revealed, and the motivations clear, the stage is now perfectly set. The currents of fate are stirring, and the journey into the unknown awaits.
Let the solo play truly begin!
Awesome, I really like the juice oracle though so far I have found it a bit intimidating for whatever reason. Good to see it in action
